Contrary to popular reports, Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno is not close to signing for Arsenal yet, with reported interest from Roma making it a battle to get any deal over the line.

The Serie A club are hawking their Brazilian goalkeeper, Alisson, around to Liverpool and Real Madrid, with a figure of around 40m Euros being mentioned. This would be more than enough to wrestle away the advantage that Arsenal had in moving early for Leno.

The Bayer Leverkusen keeper was reportedly close to an Arsenal agreement, but with another club entering the reckoning, Leno’s signature could come down to who bids more and who pays more in wages. If it is a straight-up money fight, then Roma will have the advantage.

Another move where another club has stolen the march on us is our pursuit of Aleksander Golovin. Arsenal were in pole position to pry the Russian midfielder away from CSKA, as top Russian dealmaker Oleg Artemo has close ties to Arsenal.

However, Juventus have come in and bid for Golovin, This has been rejected as CSKA are holding out for around 25m Euros, and if a bidding war is sparked, then other clubs are reportedly interested in the Russian star.

It is unclear if either player will come to Arsenal, or if a bid has even been made. What is clear is that there is a lot of work to be done if these two are indeed targets for our recruitment team, and that this summer could well see these two deals drawn out into a saga.

With Lucas Torreira almost over the line and Sokratis nearly confirmed, Arsenal are making strides in strengthening their squad, but Leno and Golovin could give us the edge in battling to reclaim our Champions League presence next season.
