Arsenal left it late to get their man, but it Thomas Partey has finally signed for the Gunners – in what has been one of the longest saga’s in transfer history.

The Ghana midfielder’s release clause was activated – to the tune of around £45m – but Partey was linked with Arsenal months ago – before even last season ended.

So, that concludes Arsenal’s business for the window, right?

Wrong.

There was the small matter of Matteo Guendouzi leaving on loan to Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin. The Frenchman had fallen out of favour at Arsenal but the promise of Guendouzi is high – and it seems Arsenal are keen to keep hold of him for the future. A loan move suits all parties.

Arsenal were also rumoured to be on the verge of selling both Sead Kolasinac and Sokratis – but both remain at the club. Options as back up – Kolasinac especially – but still players we need to shed to optimise our squad.

We also signed two talented youngsters to add to our youth ranks, one’s for the future. Nikolaj Duus Moller has signed from Malmo. The fee is under £1m, and he has signed until 2024 and played the majority of his football in Italy, where he earned the nickname, “The new Ibra.”

In another twist, it appears we did some business on the side with Hertha Berlin while we talked with them over Guendouzi. At the time of writing, young defender Rekik will join for around £900k – both Rekik and Moller are both 18 and will feature for the Under-23’s under Steve Bould. Rekik looks to have agreed a move but won’t be joining our ranks until January 1st 2021 – according to the latest news on deadline day – into the last hour we go…

With less than an hour to go, Arsenal have not yet confirmed Thomas Partey, Moller or Rekik but all three appear as good as done – which is great work. A late rumour is that not only have Arsenal taken Partey from Atletico – they also have cancelled the loan of Torreira to the same club. This is apparently due to the fact that Arsenal want to confirm a permanent deal.

If true, this is truly elite from Arsenal…

UPDATE: With the time at 1104pm, Arsenal officially announced the loan deal of Lucas Torreira to Atletico Madrid.

Coincidentally, just half an hour before, Ateltico officially announced that Thomas Partey had had his release clause paid, which officially terminated his contract with the club…

But still no announcement from Arsenal…

Then, Arsenal tweeted an RSVP to an event, to be held at 1115pm. It was a Twitter poll, with both choices to be in attendance, with one choice in capitals. Arsenal were building to a crescendo, sending all Gooners into a froth…

And on the dot, Arsenal announced the signing of Thomas Partey.

Phew. We got it over the line. I need to go to bed!
