Much has been made of the Aaron Ramsey situation.

But regardless of the talk, the man we know affectionately as ‘Rambo’ will be departing the club at the end of this season, after ten years in our shirt.

The Welshman is off to pastures new after months of negotiations, and then the contract offer being rescinded. We can look into the minutiae of why we are in this situation, but we will all end up at the same ending -

Rambo will be going.

So, do we need a replacement for the midfielder, cum attacker? The Welshman has been responsible for some pretty important net-bulgers in his time as a Gunner. Can we replace from within? Or will we even miss his presence? Our season so far has seen very little of Rambo, can we carry on regardless?

Unai Emery and Arsenal are reportedly on the lookout, and one of the names in the hat is one we have been linked with for quite some time.

Pablo Fornals is a Villareal midfielder was linked to us last season, but staying at the Yellow Submarine has benefited the young player. Since arriving at Villareal, the 22 year old has attracted many suitors, and his performance in his side’s 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao included a sensational long-range volley and some skills that belong permanently on YouTube.

Fornals is also part of Los Rojos most recent squad, and at 22, the kid can only get better. Skills to waste, an incredible engine, Fornals will not be without choice when he inevitably moves, but could it be Arsenal next up?

What is most incredible about Fornals, is his release clause. It is a mere 20m, with his stock probably worth three times as much.

The thing about Fornals is, he seems a perfect fit to replace Rambo. He is known to favour the No10 role, but can play out wide and in central midfield. He has the close control to fit into our way of play, and his vision and late runs seem tailor-made to replace our Welshman.

He has registered the same amount of assists in a season as Messi, and his decision to play his teenage years at Malaga to gain first team football have seen him grow quickly. Fornals would also give us something that Rambo doesn’t - and that is effective tracking. Fornals regularly tops out his side’s distance stats during a game.

It seems that to acquire this perfect player for Arsenal will require something special, with many clubs knowing that Fornals is a real gem.

Let us hope January sees a visit from Mislintat and Sanllehi to Villareal to persuade Fornals that Arsenal is the best option.
