Monchi will NOT be coming to Arsenal - and it proves the newspapers and rumour sites have no insider knowledge when it comes to our club.

The former Roma talent spotter supreme was touted to join the club and reunite with Unai Emery, but instead has rejoined his former club Sevilla - and left many so-called ‘experts’ with egg on their faces.

Regardless of the humiliation that the journalists are enduring, it leaves Arsenal in a bit of a predicament, with a glaring omission when it comes to the backup team that enables Unai Emery to do his job.

The role of Head of Recruitment is one that has been open since January since Sven Mislintat departed the club, with rumoured reasons circulating around the failure to extend the remit of his role. Despite this, Mislintat was hot property and his talent in talent-spotting is sorely missed.

Now that Monchi is now officially not joining as well, who does that leave?

One name doing the rounds is former Gunner Marc Overmars. The current Ajax man is now well-versed in the technical and business aspects of the game after a stellar career that included a Double at Arsenal. Would a move to Arsenal, after a turbulent few years at the Dutch club, hold much allure for the former speedster?

If money is the issue, no doubt his wages would be a far more attractive option in London than it would in his current role, and the mission at Arsenal could also draw him to the capital.

Arsenal are on the verge of recovering after a few years in the doldrums, and after helping his boyhood club recover and once more become a Champions League force, a move to secure the hottest talent to play in the red and white of Arsenal could prove the clincher.

Whatever happens, we may have to take every story with a pinch of salt from here on in. We will definitely replace Sven Mislintat, but keep your eyes peeled for the latest to find out who comes in.
