In terms of the last few weeks, it has seemed quiet on the Arsenal transfer front.

With Lucas Torreira all but confirmed, Sokratis having signed but not being confirmed by the club until July 1st and Stephan Lichtsteiner already with us, it has been a busy few weeks at Arsenal, but there has been a fresh link to the Gunners, and it has stemmed from the World Cup.

One of the standout teams in Russia so far has been the lightning-quick Mexican team, and their winger Miguel Layun has reportedly of interest to Arsenal - even prompting comment from the player himself.

The Express reports that Layun, formerly of Watford, is a potential target of Arsenal’s, helped by his stellar showings so far for his country.

Layun has said of the rumours;

“I’m just like everyone, waiting for something to be confirmed. In a tournament like the World Cup I’m totally focused on what I want to achieve here, but of course there is always the issue of not knowing what will be my future.”

Layun continued, saying about his time at Sevilla “Participating at such an important club in Europe was very special. I expressed that it would be my dream to be able to continue with the team. I still haven’t ruled out the possibility of staying at Sevilla, because for me it would be nice. It’s complicated. But I think if they had the intention to sign me they would have already communicated with me and my agent.”

His comments may not reveal where his next club will be, but it does confirm that he will be available, should we be in the market for a wide player. Seeing as we have expressed an interest in Sporting Lisbon wideman Gelson Martins, then it is safe to say that Layun could well be a bargain we want to pick up.
