Emi Martinez is one of our longest serving players, yet in terms of appearances, he is somewhat fresh faced.

The Argentine goalkeeper has spent the majority of his Arsenal career at other clubs, a string of loan deals have seen him accrue experience but with differing terms of success.

Martinez has been first choice, backup, injured and simply out of favour in the many loan destinations he has been sent to, but it seems as though these trials have made him stronger.

In fact, it appears he is ready to finally make his mark on Arsenal’s first team.

It hasn’t been easy for the keeper, and on many occasions, Martinez has been on the verge of being yet another youngster sent on his way from the club.

It is a mark of the man that he has remained, to stay and fight for his dream – namely to be Arsenal’s first choice Number One.

Of course, German Bernd Leno stands in his way right now in his bid to claim the gloves. Leno has laid down the gauntlet for Martinez, and it seems like his one last challenge before he achieves what he has been fighting for.

Make no mistake though, Leno will be feeling the heat. Martinez can’t have done much more this season in the few appearances he has made. In particular his displays in the Europa League, his saves in the hard-fought win over the dangerous Eintracht Frankfurt especially have shown that he is ready and us fans will already know what he is capable of.

Martinez is practically a Londoner, such is his tenure at the club. We should be very proud he has chosen to stick around and progress at the club. He has made the decision to improve under the Arsenal umbrella, and this has seemingly paid off.

The Argentine has been called up by his national team, and his reputation is entirely deserved.

Leno makes a slip, then Martinez is ready to take advantage.
