While our season is very much in the balance in terms of success or failure, we have decided who contributed the most from a playing point of view.

Alexandre Lacazette has been voted as our Player of the Season for 2018/19, and the Frenchman’s goals, assists and overall desire shown while on the pitch has swayed us all to crown him our best man of the season.

Eighteen goals in all competitions, with eight assists to boot, only tell half the story of the striker’s contribution so far. When the pressure is piled on, Laca has delivered. Big games have come and gone and normally, the striker has made the difference.

Crucial goals that have decided games in vital encounters such as Napoli, Valencia, Chelsea, Everton and Liverpool highlight that Laca is a player equipped to deal with the biggest of stages, and one that can help us return to where we once were.

There were other worthy candidates of course. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is in contention for the Premier League Golden Boot. Sokratis has been one of the few defenders who can hold their head high, and Lucas Torreira has been a revelation at times in midfield.

Even though they have all helped us progress this season, it has been Lacazette that has walked away with the gong, and being a fan favourite has helped enormously. His Bromance with fellow striker Aubameyang, their shared goal celebrations and how they genuinely look out for each other has endeared Lacazette to the fanbase – which has helped his cause enormously.

His place has hardly been nailed down in Emery’s first season either. The constant switching of formation and an initial reluctance to pick both star strikers in the same lineup saw Laca benched more often than Aubameyang. This was a stoic approach from Emery as he looked to keep it tight in difficult games. As the season has progressed though, Emery has noticed that we are a far better outfit with both on the pitch, and Laca’s contributions have increased in frequency.

He has been the Europa League hero against Valencia and Napoli – and our Player of the Year could well have another trophy to lift this season.

Thanks Laca!
