The transfer rumour carousel is speeding up, and no matter how much we scream, we can’t get off.
We have another player linked with the club, and this time it’s a defender.
Armando Izzo is the subject of many stories linking him with a move to Arsenal this summer. Reported talks between the player’s agent and Arsenal club representatives have apparently taken place, with a bid in the region of £22m set to be tabled.
Izzo is hot property in Italy right now. The defender plies his trade for Torino and was a near ever-present for this impressive Turin team, scoring four goals in the process. It was enough to earn a first call up and debut for the Azzurri this year, but his stay in Turin has only lasted one season.
It means that Torino can expect a decent amount for a transfer fee, and Izzo, if the reports are true, can look to add to his experience in another country.
The season previously saw Izzo at Genoa, again in the top-flight. Izzo has been on the radar since then, but his standout season has been his solitary campaign with Torino, and it means the sharks are circling.
Everton are apparently interested too, and with Phil Jagielka having left the club, it means they are in need of another defender. With the Toffees being majorly bankrolled by new owner Farhad Moshiri, it means they will be a serious rival for Izzo’s signature to whoever goes in for him, us or any other team.
Central defence is a focus of our squad, with Laurent Koscielny getting no younger and Shkodran Mustafi having convinced no-one last season, it leaves Rob Holding and Sokratis as our first choice pairing, and precious little resources in the way of backup.
Izzo would be a strong signing, but if other reports are true, we could be nearer to signing William Saliba from St Etienne.
Whatever happens, we could do with at least one of these players next season!
