The Singapore trip is proving to be an omen for the players left behind from the squad, as Jeff Reine-Adelaide has left the club to join Angers on a permanent deal.
The young French attacker was one of the surprise exclusions from the group that jetted off to Singapore for the International Champions Cup.
‘The Jeff’ as he is monikered by us Gooners, did well in the first two friendly games of Unai Emery’s Arsenal career, and was thought to be in the manager’s plans for the season.
Perhaps this was just the chance the youngster needed though, after Angers have apparently given the promise of first team football, according to the comments made by Reine-Adelaide on social media, where he explains his gratitude to the Arsenal fans and explains he has left the club to gain more playing time.
Not only this, but last season was one to forget for the Frenchman. He was actually on loan at the club he has now signed permanently for, but injury woes curtailed his season and he made just ten appearances for the French side. Still, those ten appearances must have been pretty special, as they have prompted Angers to move to sign the 20 year old.
Reine-Adelaide never quite got the opportunity to show his full potential at Arsenal, with a mixture of squad competition and injuries putting paid to his ambitions of breaking into the first team plans. Reine-Adelaide briefly showed what he can do in several FA Cup appearances during his time with Arsenal, and some really bright displays in the pre-season friendly games he has featured in over the past few seasons.
Reine-Adelaide will get the chance to play regularly at Ligue Un level against some top players, which is a great move for his development at this stage of his career.
Now that Reine-Adelaide has moved on from those that never made the trip to Singapore, Krystian Bielik and Carl Jenkinson will surely be next out of the club.
