The latest transfer story is a little out there in terms of common sense, given that our transfer budget is a little on the small side, and this reported transfer fee would swallow the majority.

Calcio Insider is saying that Stuttgart defender Benjamin Pavard is very keen on a Premier League move. So much so that he has apparently expressed this desire to his current club’s President.

The club he wants to join? Arsenal, of course.

This story follows hot on the heels of a story from French sports hub L’Equipe, who reported recently that Dortmund and Arsenal have made contact with Stuttgart regarding the availability of the young defender.

It is easy to see why Pavard is garnering interest. He has experience playing in all defensive positions, although he is mainly played at right-back. His displays last season helped Stuttgart to a healthy 7th spot in the Bundesliga, and was enough to sway Didier Deschamps to include him in his World Cup squad, ahead of more established players like Lucas Digne and City’s expensive defender Aymeric Laporte.

Pavard will have more than Dortmund and Arsenal as suitors after last season, and his price tag could well be justified, but Arsenal are closer to Caglar Soyuncu, the Freiburg defender. The fee for Soyuncu is around the 35m mark, and would still be out of our range after spending the majority of our budget on Sokratis and Torreira, but player sales are expected to bolster our transfer budget.

With Sokratis’s arrival imminent, this rumour could be a shot in the wind, but any news, you can rest assured, we will have it here on The Arsenal Review.
