The last week of transfer activity may have been hectic and packed with transfers, but according to reports, we may not be finished yet.
With the signatures of William Saliba, Dani Ceballos and the record purchase of Nicolas Pepe, we have addressed some short and long term issues in our squad. But our spending may not yet be over, not by some distance.
With less than a week until the window closes, our backroom team of Raul Sanllehi and Edu would need to get whatever they have up their sleeves over the line rapidly, and according to some journalists and articles, we may already have a couple in our sights.
While our attempts to sign Kieran Tierney remain ongoing, we are also in the hunt for Juventus centre back Daniele Rugani, with free agent Sami Khedira also a potential addition.
Rugani has fallen down the pecking order since Juve signed Mathias De Ligt from Ajax. If Giorgio Chiellini stays fit, Rugani’s opportunities for first team football will be limited, and a move would suit all parties.
The type of move though, is very much up for discussion. Thanks to the structured payments for both Saliba and Pepe, our meagre budget hasn’t been destroyed. That doesn’t mean we have money to burn though, and the rumours are that Arsenal would like a two year loan for Rugani with a view to buy, but Juve would want a permanent transfer with immediate payment – so even if this is true, this may rumble on yet.
Then there is the case of Sami Khedira. The German midfielder has a fine pedigree, but at 33 and a poor injury record, his effectiveness is under question. As a cover signing though, Khedira could quite easily add some of his class to proceedings for 20 or so games through the season, linking up well with former team mate Ozil.
So, three potential signings in the works for Arsenal, and our potential for the coming season looks very promising indeed.
