Some rumours refuse to die.
The whispers surrounding our interest in Ousmane Dembele are very much like that.
We have been listening/reading about the young Frenchman and countless links between him and his arrival at our club. And now Guillem Balague, Sky Sports resident La Liga expert, has weighed in.
Balague has claimed that Arsenal sent an intermediary to enquire about the availability of the young attacker, and Barcelona have apparently said they will only do business directly with the club, rather than through a 3rd party.
These rumours persist because Dembele isn’t exactly enjoying the finest of times with the Catalunya club.
There are reported incidents of discontent surrounding Dembele, and his difficulty in adhering to certain rules.. Dembele has already been warned about his diet since joining for a huge 105m fee. there are other rumours too, surrounding the forward failing to show up to training.
Dembele appeared to have turned the corner at the start of this season after scoring some important goals and enjoying a run in the side, but Barca boss Ernesto Valverde is not happy with the level of effort Dembele is putting in at times - no more evident than when Dembele took an age to take of his tracksuit and tie his boots when Messi was injured in a game last month.
Even his fellow players have revealed that Dembele has a hard time following the rules. Gerard Pique stated that the team have a Whatsapp group and it helps Dembele because of his frequent lateness.
The player is naturally blessed, of that there can be no doubt. The talk is that we would prefer a loan move with a view to buy - especially seeing as the fee is apt to be sky-high still - but Barca want to speak to us directly, something we have failed to do so far.
Dembele would add something quite special to our team, but his indiscipline is something that is ruining his chances at Barca.
