Arsenal transfer rumours have kicked on into another gear recently, and it seems our negotiations with certain players has also gone to another level – if the associated stories are to be believed.
One that is reportedly near completion is the loan move for Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos.
The young midfielder is very highly rated and was apparently subject to interest from Tottenham too, but according to journalists and football news websites, Ceballos not only chose us as his destination, but has spent the last day or so taking his medical prior to joining.
Ceballos is set to pen a one year loan deal, but worryingly, it seems there will be no option to buy at the end of the loan spell. So if Ceballos tears up the Premier League while in our colours, then it will be progress for his parent club rather than for us.
The consolation though, is that we will have one hell of a player in our ranks for next season. Ceballos is wanted back at Real for good reason, and we can give him the gametime he needs.
Ceballos is a fine passer of the ball, but it is his ball control that will wow the crowds. His ability to worm out of tight spots and create openings when under pressure is akin to some of our better players in recent history, such as Tomas Rosicky and Santi Cazorla.
Heady praise indeed, but Ceballos could well fill the gap left by the departing Ramsey, and perhaps more. He is able to play in the centre and further forward, so we can roll with the punches according to the opposition we face.
Ceballos is expected to be announced in the coming days. He will surely be warmly welcomed by our fans – not least because of snubbing our neighbours before plumping for us as his loan destination!
