With no Premier League football to speak of until the infernal international break is completed, a lot of us are still revelling in the last-minute capture of key midfielder Thomas Partey from under the noses of Atletico Madrid.
And rightly so.
When was the last time Arsenal acted so decisively in the transfer market to get their man? This summer, we did it more than once too. Gabriel Magalhaes was hot property, but regular communication from both Edu and Arteta swung the deal for Gabriel, who confirmed himself that it was the vision of Arteta for the club and his calls that really persuaded him to join the project.
Now comes the hard part though.
Arteta has already stiffened up what was a notoriously weak defence. He has rectified the problem where Arsenal continually were felled by their fellow top6 rivals – we have a great record against them now. And he rescued last season from the doldrums with a steep climb in form and some impressive results.
He has the men he needs at his disposal. Throw in a Gabriel Martinelli and a Calum Chambers and we have a full bill of health, a complete squad.
So, how does he help us take the next step?
Some say that a switch to four at the back is the natural progression. With the addition of powerhouse Partey, he can sit in front of the quartet at the back and if partnered with a natural playmaker like Ceballos who can also mix it, then we will have an effective pivot too.
With four at the back we also have the option to stick three central midfielders in, when we have a tough fixture. The trio of Partey, Xhaka and Ceballos is a mouthwatering prospect and can also be mixed up with either Saka, Willock or Elneny for backup.
Arteta has been given the resources he needs and he has been backed as he has shown what he can do to improve Arsenal WITHOUT the resources. Back the man and the upward trajectory we have been on since his arrival will no doubt continue.
The crazy results this season indicate that the Premier League status quo is not set in stone and anything can be achieved. This season can be the next step in our evolution.
