Another week has passed and it means another week closer to the beginning of the Premier League season, and we’ve had a fair amount to talk about.
In terms of new additions, the rumour mill never stops, and the biggest name to be linked with us is Barca wonderkid Ousmane Dembele, who was pictured with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Matteo Guendouzi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. This began a wildfire of links for the Frenchman to join Arsenal, but after having signed for Barca only a year ago for such a large fee, it would take an astronomical figure to tempt Barca into selling.
In terms of departures, Chuba Akpom has left the club and signed for Greek outfit PAOK Salonika. The 22 year old has been on the fringes of our squad for some time and had been sent on loan on numerous occasions, and this move is no surprise with Akpom at a stage in his development where he has to be playing regular games.
Another name we have been linked with this week has been Domagoj Vida. The Croat defender starred for his country at the back in their run to the World Cup final, and Vida is known to be courted by a few outfits. It is purely speculation right now, and with Calum Chambers, Sokratis, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Rob Holding, Laurent Koscielny - when fit - and Shkodran Mustafi to pick from, our quota on centre-halves looks to be full.
The hype surrounding Aaron Ramsey is increasing with every week that he doesn’t sign a contract, and his absence from the Lazio game was met with more than a few doubts by some fans, even though he twinged a muscle in the warmup for the Chelsea friendly in midweek. The Welsh star is expecting twins with his wife and a move away doesn’t quite make sense, but there is talk of money demands and interest from Chelsea - who would be willing to pay Ramsey what he wants. Rambo stands on the precipice, if he stays he has the chance to go down as a club legend, if he goes then the bond between fans and player will be broken - and he must decide quickly.
There are other players expected to leave before the window closes. Carl Jenkinson and Krystian Bielik have been absent during pre-season and are expected to find new clubs soon, and there are two others who are nearing the exit door.
Danny Welbeck has still not returned to training after his international exploits with England, and the striker’s future at the club is in the balance.
Lucas Perez too is the subject of departure rumours, with West Ham reportedly circling as well as Sporting Lisbon. The Spaniard would command a fee too, but the figures being talked about would do very little to expand what Arsenal have to spend currently.
With the window closing soon, expect the rumours to increase and for a few moves to happen.
