Rumours abound, no matter if the transfer window is open or not.

We are hit with all manner of links that keep the column inches filled, and this one surrounds our left-back situation.

Nacho Monreal was heavily linked with a departure last season, allegedly he had an offer on the table from Real Sociedad, which he rebuffed and chose to stay with Arsenal.

Now though, the lure may be too strong, as Barcelona are in the market for a back up to Jordi Alba. Monreal would more than suffice in that regard, and Blaugranas are also eyeing up Alberto Moreno - but let’s be honest, if this was a straight choice, then Nacho wins clearly.

This has a touch of the truth about it, with Monreal on the wrong side if 30 and most likely keen to end his career in his homeland, and that would mean Arsenal would be in the market for another left-back.

The rumour mill provides us with the reported answers, as the latest players linked with us are Keiran Tierney of Celtic and Nicolas Tagliafico of Ajax.

Both players are earning rave reviews in their respective leagues, and Tierney especially has had many eyes on him since his breakthrough.

Tagliafico is a lesser known name, but no less talented - and perhaps may be better equipped as his domestic league is a stronger one than the SPL.

The Argentine defender earned his stripes at Independiente and only moved to Ajax last year. He has full caps for his country and has been likened to Argentina and Inter Milan legend, Javier Zanetti, thanks to his stamina and technique.

So his skills are not in doubt, but it remains to be seen if we are indeed in the market for a replacement for Nacho Monreal, given we have some excellent youth prospects.

However, with the jury out on Sead Koalsinac’s defensive merits, an addition in this area isn’t above rumours having a tinge of truth.

This one could rumble on, keep it on The Arsenal Review for the latest.
