Arsenal linked with Defensive Midfielders

Now the dust is settling on the appointment of Unai Emery as Arsenal boss, the media have inevitably turned to the subject of transfers coming in – and out of the club.

The reports from the majority of sources state that Ramsey is very much in Emery’s plans and that contract talks will begin soon to try and tempt Ramsey into extending his deal – with the Welshman entering the final year of his contract.

This means that Arsenal may well be in the market for a defensive midfielder, and there have been a few names that have surfaced in recent days.

Emery will not be heading up the recruitment process, as Sven Mislintat and Raul Sanllehi will be the ones responsible for bringing new blood into the team. It is still clear that Arsenal do require a player to cover the defensive duties in midfield, and the players linked with Arsenal could do that job very well.

A name that originally surfaced last year was Jean-Michel Seri, the Nice midfield man that pulled up trees as Nice finished in third spot. With Patrick Vieira close to taking the manager’s role at the French club, this may well enhance our decrease our odds of signing Seri. The report from Sky Sports state that fees will be around the £35m mark as the Ivory Coast man has an agreement with the club if a bid comes in around that mark. Emery is also a big fan of Seri, after trying to sign him when at PSG.

There have been other names that have been circulated that could well do the job, but Seri seems the name that won’t go away.
