BBC Sport’s David Ornstein tweeted recently to confirm Lucas Torreira’s impending move to Arsenal is moving ever closer.

In amongst his tweeted words was a little nugget of information that may have been overlooked.

Ornstein mentioned that Arsenal were in the market for a younger player that would fill the quote for this transfer window.

According to the French media and Sky Sports, this is already in the works, with news of a move for Lorient’s midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi.

The Ligue 2 outfit have apparently accepted Arsenal’s offer of 8m Euros with bonuses for the 19 year old, who is a French U20 international, and has Ligue Un experience with Lorient too.

The young Frenchman could be likened in style to recently thwarted transfer target Yancine Adli, who decided to stay at PSG instead of moving to the Gunners. Power to move from the defensive thrid to link to the attack, Guendouzi has an eye for a pass too, but he is not quite the finished article yet.

According to French sources, Guendouzi has shown flashes of brilliance but top coaching should be able to coax out the skill and iron out the creases of concentration that Guendouzi currently has.

8m for a teenager in the second tier of the French domestic game may seem high, but many speak highly of the midfielder, and this very much smacks of a move by eagle-eyed Sven Mislintat - if so, then he knows exactly how good Guendouzi is, and will become.

Guendouzi came through the youth ranks at Lorient, and last season, although relegated to Ligue 2, he made 17 appearances in the top flight.

Reports in the French media say this move is very much on the cards, but the latest will always be here, on The Arsenal Review.
