Arsenal have reportedly tabled a bid for Portuguese winger Gelson Martins, according to The Metro.

The Sporting Lisbon player is also reportedly unhappy with the refusal of the Arsenal bid, with Gelson keen to move clubs this summer.

The 23 year old is also not the only Sporting player looking for a new club - the club had a pretty unhappy end to the season, culminating in the players being attacked at their training ground by a horde of fans after the failure to achieve a Champions League place.

To add to the unsteady foundation at the club, the club’s president threatened to suspend nineteen of the players over a very public spat surrounding poor displays.

It signals a potential fire sale at Sporting, and Gelson is top of the shopping list for most clubs, including Manchester United.

Gelson has a price tag of roughly 45m Euros, with Arsenal’s bid falling short at 26m. This means that negotiator Raul Sanllehi has plenty of work to do to ensure the clubs meet in the middle - if indeed the bid itself isn’t fabricated.

There is a big reason why Gelson is such hot property - he scored thirteen goals and registered thirteen assists in 52 apps during the season, and wowed fans with his ability to beat a man with ease.

He made his first team debut in 2015, but it was last season that has attracted interest. He made his full international debut in 2016 and has 18 full caps to his name.

He could be a real exciting addition for Arsenal, but this isn’t anywhere near a done deal - or even concrete interest. Take into consideration that he will play a part in Portugal’s World Cup squad and his price tag - as well as his suitors - will increase.

Keep your eyes peeled - if it happens, it’ll be on The Arsenal Review.
