We’ve been linked with a fair amount of full-backs recently, and today has brought another story of a left-back who reportedly is interested in a switch to The Emirates.
Bayern Munich and Austria left-back David Alaba has commented on his future, and mentioned Arsenal as a possible destination.
First and foremost, the defender reiterated his desire to stay at his current club, stating that he is more than comfortable in his role and the ever-present challenges that playing for the Bundesliga champions gives him.
When pressed on if he had a desire to or vision to go elsewhere, he mentioned La Liga and the big two clubs of Barcelona and Real Madrid, and also the Premiership.
This was when the Austrian revealed that he is a boyhood Arsenal fan, and mentioned - in a roundabout way - the mantra that we all share.
Once a Gooner, always a Gooner.
Whether this is an indication of him possibly playing for Arsenal is up for debate, but mentioning this in an interview is surely cause for a little ray of optimism for us. Alaba is a class act and a real goal threat too.
This could also be Alaba under instruction from his agent to strike fear into Bayern Munich by inferring to a potential move to another club. This is an age-old tactic that not only earns a bumper contract, but feeds the fire of the gossip columns.
Nicolas Tagliafico of Ajax is another left-back that has been recently linked with our club and the young Argentinean is a viable option for Arsenal, with Nacho Monreal in his career twilight years and Sead Kolasinac more of an attacker than a reliable backline member.
That leaves room for another left-back, one that can keep us secure when we’re attacking.
Whether that be David Alaba, Nicolas Tagliafico or another is a mystery, but keep tuned to The Arsenal Review for the latest.
