3 wins from 3 has Mikel Arteta and Arsenal feeling good about themselves heading to Liverpool clash on Monday. Wins over Fulham, West Ham and now Leicester City (EFL Cup) has the Gunners high on confidence heading to Anfield. But as we know Liverpool are a completely different beast to anything, they have faced so far this season.
After what can be said was a relatively easy outing in the end against Leicester, albeit for a few nervous moments towards the end of the game, as Arsenal cruised through the cup tie. Bukayo Saka was great in the first half, Reiss Nelson looked lively and Eddie Nketiah after a slow first half got his goal late in the game to put it beyond doubt.
Against West Ham we saw just how important Kieran Tierney and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are to the system and structure not only defensively but also going forward. Tierney looks set to come back into the fold against Liverpool as should defender Gabriel who has impressed me so far this season apart from a few nervous moments but for the most part he has been solid in defence.
The Liverpool game presents Arsenal with a true test of how far they have come under Arteta and although they did managed to over come them in the Community Shield, it will be a much different side compared to that one. Plus playing at Anfield where they rarely lose.
With no new signings coming in before the game Arteta could field the same XI as the West Ham game with maybe one or two changes depending on how he wants to set the team up. It will be a great challenge and one that I feel we are up for. Playing Liverpool twice within a week is not ideal but it presents the type of pressure that this club once thrived on and under Mikel Arteta Arsenal are on the improve but Liverpool is their biggest test yet.
